We Built the First Liberty Walk Nissan Z in America! Here's the Epic Transformation Story
Hey everyone, it's your boy back at it again! Today, I'm absolutely stoked to take you through one of the most insane builds we've ever tackled at the shop. We're talking about transforming a brand new 2023 Nissan Z into a full-blown, ground-hugging, head-turning Liberty Walk widebody monster. And the craziest part? This isn't just any build; this is officially the first Nissan Z in the entire United States to rock the legendary Liberty Walk kit. Buckle up, because this journey from showroom stock to stealth fighter was nothing short of legendary. 😎
Chapter 1: The Blank (Not-So-Blank) Canvas
Our story starts with a Z that already had a bit of a personality. It wasn't exactly rolling off the dealer lot. The previous owner had already gone to town with some mods:
-
A vented aftermarket hood for that aggressive look.
-
A set of shiny five-spoke chrome wheels.
-
A full-body wrap in a wild purple chrome finish.

Before we could even think about slapping on that widebody goodness, we had to get back to basics. That meant a deep clean and carefully peeling off that flashy wrap. What was underneath? The car's original, and honestly gorgeous, factory Black Diamond Pearl paint. It looked so good we decided right then—this was going to be the final color. Sometimes, the OEM options are just perfect. 🖤
Oh, and we did one totally random thing first. We threw on some off-road tires and took it for a spin in the dirt! Donuts, light trails—you name it. The Z handled it like a champ, proving it's got some hidden talents. But the call of the widebody was too strong. Back to the shop it went for a complete strip-down!
Chapter 2: The Heart of the Beast - Performance Tweaks
A car that looks this mean has to sound and feel the part. We couldn't just do cosmetics. Under the hood, we started with the symphony. Out went the stock exhaust, and in went a Magnaflow xMod series performance exhaust system with extreme delete pipes. The result? A deeper, more aggressive roar that promises unlocked ponies and guaranteed head-turns.
Next up, the interior. The stock seats had to go. We installed a pair of much more supportive, race-inspired bucket seats. This wasn't a simple bolt-on job, though. The stock rails wouldn't cooperate, so our fabricators got to work, custom-making mounts to get those seats sitting perfect. Safety and style, baby!
Chapter 3: The Main Event - Unboxing Liberty Walk
The moment of truth arrived. A huge crate showed up, and inside was the holy grail: the Liberty Walk widebody kit. This wasn't just any kit. The box had a label that read "SEMA Second Kit"—confirming this was only the second kit in the entire world for the new Z, and the first one here in the U.S. The pressure was on! 😅
We laid out the pieces—massively flared fenders, an aggressive new front bumper, a wild rear diffuser, and a slick three-piece ducktail spoiler. Holding them up against the stock body panels showed just how radically different the car's proportions were about to become.
Chapter 4: Surgery & Stance - Making it Fit
This is where things got real. We masked up the car, lined up those wider-than-wide wheel arches, and started drilling. The Liberty Walk kit adds a whopping 80 mm (over 3 inches) of width on each side! Talk about a presence.
The rear spoiler was bolted on, and the new diffuser transformed the back end. Then came the front end—the old bumper and hood were swapped out for the Liberty Walk pieces. But once everything was mocked up, we hit a snag. The stock ride height looked ridiculous with this kit. It was like it was on stilts!
The solution? A full custom Prazis air suspension system. This wasn't just for slamming it. Air suspension gives us the ultimate control:
-
Crawling Mode: Hit a button to raise it up for driveways and speed bumps.
-
Show Mode: Slam it to the ground for that perfect, aggressive parked stance.
We installed the airbags, struts, a hefty compressor (mounted on a custom shelf we built between the rear strut towers), and all the wiring and controllers. Total game-changer.

With the suspension ready, we finally got to the point of no return: cutting the original fenders. Out came the saws and grinders to make room for those permanent wide arches. Once the metalwork was done, we sent all the new panels off to the paint shop to get them flawlessly matched to that Black Diamond Pearl.
Chapter 5: The Finishing Touches - Devil's in the Details
While the kit was being painted, we kept busy:
-
Stopping Power: A massive Wilwood big brake kit went on to handle the extra weight and look awesome behind the wheels.
-
Shoes: The wheels arrived—stunning gold Motegi deep-dish monsters wrapped in sticky 315/30 Falken Azenis semi-slick tires. The fitment was chef's kiss.
-
Engine Bay Glam: We added a NISMO cold air intake for better breathing, a NISMO front strut bar for chassis stiffness, and swapped the engine cover for a lighter carbon fiber piece.
-
Exterior Accents: Carbon fiber mirror caps and door sill trims added the final sprinkle of race-spec detail.
Chapter 6: The Grand Reveal & The INSANE Giveaway
The painted panels came back. We reassembled everything, stepped back, and... wow. Just wow. The contrast between the glossy Black Diamond Pearl body and the satin-finished wheel arches and spoiler was pure art. This thing looked like it belonged on a racetrack one second and a show floor the next.

But here's the plot twist that blows everyone's mind. We're not keeping this car. That's right. We're giving it away. 🎉
